As the snow begins to pile up in the mountains 🏔 I humbly remind myself that the average depth of an avalanche burial is 1.2m (represented in the photo) and 50% of those fully buried victims result in a fatality.-

-Those are good odds if your gambling with money but a coin toss over life and death is not a calculation. Not getting caught in the first place is the key. –

-As a professional I am attending preseason trainings and continuing education seminars while observing the deepening and developing snowpack. Engaging with colleagues and ski partners alike to refine protocols and make sure procedures are up to standard. And approaching the terrain with a large dose of humility and uncertainty. –

-When the consequences of a mistake are potentially the loss of life… shouldn’t the efforts to mitigate it be exhaustive and ongoing?-

-Recreational users engage in the same terrain as professionals with the same hazards and consequences. –

-What’s you preseason ritual? Do have you the necessary education, experience and preparation? Do you have the right team? –
